The catalogue informs the reader about the history of mining of mineral resources from Palaeolithic times up to the present. The most significant exhibits – showcased in the Exhibition of Mining and in the mock-ups of Ore and Coal Mines – are described in detail. The publication is supplemented by a little dictionary of relevant terms, index and by a list of the showcased exhibits. The exhibition chronologically illustrates the history of mining of mineral resources. It is focused on presenting mining technology and engineering through centuries. In the exhibition hall, there are archival materials, mine plans, drawings, photographs and, in the first place, the objects from the NTM and other museums. The visitor easily grasps how mine workings were done, such as galleries, pits and stopes, which have been used to gain mineral resources. The exhibition is grouped into consequential blocks explaining how the mining technology has developed in human history. The exhibition is newly focused on mining machinery and a special attention is also paid to mining engineering, as well as to presenting mining as a special technical field. Today’s mining equipment is presented through various Czech products and films and photographs from Czech mines.
